Hesperia, CA - Early Wednesday morning, California Highway Patrol Officers were in pursuit of a suspect who was wanted for shooting at individuals who were in a vehicle Tuesday evening on the I-15.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported that officers conducted a “high risk a traffic stop” but the suspect refused to exit the vehicle. For more than an hour, officers and deputies negotiated with the suspect to exit the vehicle, but he ignored their commands. “Less than lethal methods were used in an attempt to gain compliance and resolve the situation, but they were unsuccessful.”
According to a news release, after more than an hour of negotiation, the suspect got out and ran to the front of the vehicle and began shooting at officers. Then he ran while continuing to shoot at them. Officers returned fire, the suspect was hit by their gun fire and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Just moments after the shooting, a 911 caller reported that three people were struck by gunfire at a nearby home. First responders found an adult male, an adult female and a 14-year-old boy with injuries. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment , all three are expected to recover. Where the bullets originated from is unknown at this time.
