Minneapolis, MN - Early Monday morning, demonstrators gathered outside of the Hennepin County Government Center to show their support for George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement on day one of the much anticipated Derek Chauvin trial. A number of racial justice groups organized the event.
Mid-morning, a large group estimated at around 1,000 people, almost all of which were wearing masks, marched through the streets of Downtown Minneapolis. They were holding homemade signs, listening to speakers & chanting together with the sounds of light rail traffic and protest drums beating in the background.
Visual Black Justice occupied the lawn at the Hennepin County Government Center with an artwork and hand painted sign display, music, flowers and more. Visual Black Justice did report that a man drove a pickup truck through a group of demonstrators that were marching in the street. He got out of his vehicle and chased several individuals with an axe.
