Suspects Identified in Lincoln Officer Involved Shooting

“During the pursuit, a male suspect began shooting from the moving vehicle at the trooper.”

Lincoln, NE - The incident began on Saturday, just after 8:30 am, when Lincoln police officers responded to a report of a robbery at a northwest Lincoln hotel. The victim provided a detailed description of the robbery suspects and their vehicle, a Chevrolet Trailblazer. As the victim was being interviewed by Lincoln police officers, he was alerted that someone was attempting to use his credit card at multiple businesses.


A state trooper located the suspect vehicle near N. 56th St. and Superior St. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled westbound on Superior. The trooper pursued the vehicle. During the pursuit, a male suspect began shooting from the moving vehicle at the trooper. The trooper performed an intervention technique to bring the vehicle to a stop underneath the Interstate 80 overpass near N. 56th St. At this time, the original trooper was assisted by another trooper and a Lincoln police officer.


During an exchange of gunfire, the male suspect, identified as Christian W. Alexander, 26, was shot. The female suspect, identified as Hailey R. Stainbrook, 30, also produced a gun and disobeyed commands. Stainbrook was shot by an officer. Officers on the scene provided medical aid to both suspects, who were then transported to a local hospital by Lincoln Fire and Rescue. Alexander remains in intensive care with life-threatening injuries. The female suspect underwent surgery, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.


General timeline of events from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office:

0839 hrs The robbery at the NW Lincoln Hotel is reported to Lincoln Police. Information is broadcast on Law Enforcement radios of the suspects, weapon and vehicle description.
0916 hrs The robbery victim is notified his credit card was used at a North Lincoln Business
0930 hrs The robbery victim is again notified his credit card is being used at a NE Lincoln gas station. That information is also broadcast on Law Enforcement Radios. A Nebraska State Patrol Trooper spots the vehicle in the 5500 Blk of Superior and attempts a traffic stop. The pursuit is initiated.
After the first shots were fired at N. 56th and I-80, officers negotiated with the suspect for Seven (7) minutes before gunshots were reported a second time.
The 2005 white Chevrolet Trailblazer had been reported stolen on Thurs, February 18, from a Motel parking lot in Cheyenne, WY. The victim reports a .38 caliber revolver was in the vehicle.
A trooper was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries suffered during a collision between his patrol vehicle and the suspect vehicle. The trooper has since been treated and released from the hospital.
